Nathan Sowa  was born in Agana, Guam, in 1976.  He took a degree in philosophy at Oregon State University in 2000. His final year in college was spent on exchange in Lyon, France, where he skipped classes to go draw at the museum and realize his passion for traditional art. Three years later he enrolled at the Florence Academy of Art in Florence, Italy, where he studied from 2004-2008. He was later hired to teach at the FAA in Gothenburg, Sweden, from 2008-2010. He is a founding member of the painting group Bjäremålarna, begun in the summer of 2006.
